out with the old and in with new... part 2

The King is dead... long live the King!

We now have a new website :: ahintofbergamot.com :: and a new pool on Flickr that is open to all.

The way we are working the site is as follows...

1. On Sundays we will post a theme on ahintofbergamot.com for the coming week... this week coming, for example, is 'old'. You are free to interpret the theme as you wish.
2. Take a photo or photos and upload them to the pool in Flickr. You can only post 3 pics per day to the pool (please - no nudity or profanity).
3. The best of the pics will then be posted to ahintofbergamot.com. Please ensure your Flickr settings allow us to repost your pics. You will be credited too.
4. That's it for now. We are looking at expanding the site and the themes in due course... but want to walk before we run.

Please join us over at ahintofbergamot.com and start contributing to the blog. 

As for this site, it will not be killed... but it also won't be updated. We'll keep it as a record and an archive.

out with the old and in with the new... part 1

Happy New Year

... to everyone who may still read this blog or have it languishing in their RSS. As you can see from the wee graph above... participation in this blog has waned since it started back in 2009. I, for one, am guilty of forgetting about it... and for that I am sorry.

 However... out with the old and in with the new... I recently announced on twitter that I was "looking to refresh the blog and photo submission process."

I do believe it is time for a fresh coat of paint... and wanted let you know that moves are afoot to launch a new blog... from the ashes of this one... with a new, simpler submission process.

I am delighted to say that Laura Bridge has agreed to work with me on this... and I will be looking for more contributors in due course. We won't be asking folks to submit photos to the blog... we'll take care of that for you... all we will be looking for is people to submit to the Flickr pool.

The purpose of the blog will be twofold - (1) to encourage folks to take photos and challenge them to do so ... and (2) to showcase these photos. We will be working to a weekly "theme" that we'll ask participants to work to... with the best of these submissions shown on the blog.

To this end... can I ask anyone who wishes to journey with us on this to consider "new" as this week's theme. Interpret "new" as you want... and I'll be in touch with how you can submit in due course.

Personally I think this photoblog has been a success... people have come together and posted pics that, for them, demonstrate the specialness hiding within the ordinary & everyday.

From a "big bang" at the start of the year... things tailed off with folks posting as / when the notion took them... usually when they had something awesome to share.

I haven't been the most regular of posters... and I intend for that to change in 2010.

I would also like to make some other changes to this photoblog... and need your help with the following:

1) If you are a contributor... please leave a comment IF YOU WISH TO CONTINUE to contribute. There is little point in being a "named contributor" if you no longer contribute. I will have no ill feeling if you no longer wish to be part of bergamot.

2) If you are a viewer/reader... please lets us know what you want to see/read. Do you want us to link to some of the fab content out there in the photography world... provide hints & tips... learn a wee bit more about a certain something that one of the contributors does? I, for one, want to know how Stewart Cutler gets those fab shots of the moon or how Laura Bridge imagineers such awesome self-portraits.

Please accept my thanks for participating in this photoblog experiment... either as a contributor or as a viewer/reader.

I hope 2010 brings you joy and peace.

The 300th post...

Three days into February and we've hit 300 posts. I am stoked and humbled by the take up from all the participants. What started off as a wee idea has gained real momentum in 34 days. Thanks to everyone involved... and thanks to you for coming back again... day after day.
